Prized by Hawaiian kings since 1790.
The Story of Okolehao – In Hawaii, alcohol was first made by English sailors from fermented roots of the ti plant in the 1780’s. In 1790 an escaped Australian convict brought distillation to Hawaii, using the ti beverage to produce a highly alcoholic spirit which became Hawaii’s only indigenous alcohol, Okolehao.
