Hawaiian Okolehao│ 100 Proof

(4 customer reviews)

Prized by Hawaiian kings since 1790.

The Story of Okolehao – In Hawaii, alcohol was first made by English sailors from fermented roots of the ti plant in the 1780’s. In 1790 an escaped Australian convict brought distillation to Hawaii, using the ti beverage to produce a highly alcoholic  spirit which became Hawaii’s only indigenous alcohol, Okolehao.

Oahu’s Oldest Distillery Island Distillers was born from the idea that excellent spirits could be made right here in Hawaii from our abundant natural resources and perfect climate.

Seated at the base of historical Koko Head Crater, surrounded by pockets of farmland, you’ll find Island Distillers. The location captures our production method of embracing traditional tropical flavors that are found throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Tasting Notes – As a spirit unique to Hawaii, it presents a flavor of its own. Experience Hawaiian tradition; you’ll find flavors of earthy and vegetal notes, hints of banana.

We love this unique native Hawaiian spirit. It goes great in all tropical cocktails. We brought home several bottles from Oahu and hope to order more for the holidays.

This oke has a subtle sweet flavor, and is on the harsher side of clear liquors. It is complemented well by lime and acidic fruits. The best cocktail I’ve made with it so far is by mixing 150ml with POG (500ml), lime (75ml), and red wine (150ml), and using the clarified milk technique with 250ml milk, then double straining through 2 nut milk bags. I look forward to trying more cocktails with it!

love this spirit i order it on a regular basis . i have been drinking this since 2013 when i saw my first bottle in the ABC store next to where we stayed when i proposed to my now wife . good memories and a very good spirit

I just reordered this product. It’s popular at our home bar as it makes a smooth cocktail (Happy Buddha) for those that want to take a break from the Mai Tai and other tiki drinks but still want to stay in the tropical vibe.
4 oz Guava Juice (we use Ceres 100% Guava juice)
1 ½ oz Okolehao Hawaiian Moonshine
    ½ oz Lime Juice
    ¼ oz Cointreau
Shake with ice cubes until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass. Add fresh cubed ice (a large cocktail cube works best).
